As people cry in their own despair Looking for some sympathy From people just like you and me Do they want their woes and pain to last As they cling on tightly to their past So many stories all the same Repeated over and over again Only aware of their personal need Ignorant as the rest of the world bleeds With devastation everywhere Who is left to stop and care To stop and think for a minute or two That there's someone else worse off than you Who has no water or food to eat No clothes or shoes to put on their feet No families left to give support No one to help to ease the hurt Nowhere to live, out in the cold Wondering if they'll ever live to grow old Living in squalour contracting disease Not in our back yard but over the seas Where out of sight means out of mind To the world who chooses to be blind Where suffering and fear is rife No value's on this type of life So count your blessings and think awhile About your very own life style And think of them worse off than you Isn't it the least that you can do? © Catherine Turner-Joll
