Not far from Bradford in West Yorkshire is a small village called Haworth.
It is here that three young girls lived and wrote some of the most famous novels in
British history to date. These young girls were the Bronte sisters, Charlotte, Emily
and Anne.
They lived at Haworth Parsonage where their father was the parson of the adjacent
church of St. Michael.
The Bronte family, apart from Anne, are buried in a vault within St. Michael's church.
Anne is buried in St. Mary's church in Scarborough where she spent the last days of her life.
Haworth is set on a steep hill and either side of the main street is lined with
antique shops, ald fashioned sweet shops, an old fashioned apothecary and guest houses as
well as inns and taverns, such as the Black Bull Inn. Indeed, the Black Bull Inn is where
Branwell Bronte used to spend his time drinking and this is where Emily used to come looking
for Branwell on many occasions. I might add that today, the Black Bull is a charming Inn
to visit and take a drink - I would also like to mention that the food served here is top
class, particularly their Steak and Ale pie - if you go to Haworth, a visit to the Black
Bull is highly recommended!
