The City Of Hereford
Hereford was once a walled city, and some of the original wall remains today. If you take a walk south towards the Greyfriars Bridge (the new bridge), just before you reach the traffic lights, you will be able to see a cannon ball embedded in the wall, left over from the days of Oliver Cromwell! If you take a walk over the Greyfriars bridge you will see the old bridge on your left. There are ancient tunnels running from the Cathedral down to the river, and one such tunnel can be seen just at the other side of the bridge on the left, when the water levels are low enough. These are the tunnels through which clergy men would flee in the days when religion was abolished. Hereford is well known for a variety of things. World wide it is renowned for its Hereford Bulls while closer to home it has one of the largest makers of cider. Hereford also produces hops for beer making. Hereford is a continuously expanding city surrounded by some of the most spectacular countryside in the UK.
