Lady In Waiting
I sat at the window again today
Wishing and hoping you'd pass this way
Looking out cross the garden and down the long lane
I sat and I waited, it was only in vain
Eager to catch just a glimpse of your coach
Pulled by fine horses as it makes its approach
Listening for the sound of their hooves on the clay
But you were not coming, at least not today
As the war is now over I thought you would be
Making a speedy return back to me
Yet you've answered no letters and I wonder why
You've not found in your heart the need to reply
So I wonder and fear you might possibly be
Gone from this life and buried at sea
Or perhaps you've moved on and taken another
To stand by your side and to be your new lover
So I wait for some word and until then I be
Your lady in waiting, waiting for thee
