We were posted to Catterick in North Yorkshire from Sennelager in Germany in July, 1998. This is one of the largest garrisons in Europe and is approximately two miles away from the town of Richmond. Richmond is a very old market town and has a large market square which is cobbled and surrounded by old buildings dating from different periods in history, which is evident from the different architectural styles. The castle itself dominates the town and is only a short walk from the market square. Legend says that King Arthur is asleep deep in the vaults beneath the castle and that he will arise to defend England in a time of crisis. Another legend tells of the little drummer boy who was sent into the vaults to find King Arthur and his men. The boy was lost and never found, but it is said that if you listen carefully, you can hear the beating of the drummer boys drum beneath the cobbled streets, leading about a mile away to Easby Abbey.Find out more about Richmond by visiting the links below.

I am a student at the University of York so am obviously a frequent visitor to the city of York, which also happens to be one of my favourite cities in the United Kingdom. I like York because it is steeped in history, is full of historical buildings, has one of the oldest streets in the UK (The Shambles), has its fair share of ghosts - I could go on and on, but don't take my word for it, check out the following links to learn about this beautiful city.
